Brunswick Police Department

Developing intelligent solutions to help modernize our communities.

Details.

When Ledgewood was brought into the Brunswick Police State project, the construction budget based on the approved architectural design was $1.2 million over budget. The experienced team at Ledgewood went to work to reduce the program and value engineer the project, coming up with a design plan that met the Police Department’s needs with opportunity for future expansion — all within budget.

A geotechnical investigation of the site determined the soils would not support the building as designed. In response, the team developed a mat slab design using an 18” thick slab under the complete building, adding 350 cubic yards of concrete and over 40 tons of reinforcing steel. Constantly relying on their decades of experience, Ledgewood developed a system to install piping under the slab and pump heated water through to prevent the ground from freezing. This innovative thinking allowed the design to move forward.
