Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School

Inspires imagination and a connection to the environment.

Details.

Ledgewood Construction won a highly-competitive bid to build the Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School for the Brunswick School Department. Located on the former site of the old Brunswick High School, the new, 94,000-s.f. school is home to 600 students in grades 3-5. The two-story school also houses a full size gymnasium with stage, cafeteria, library, and music and arts classrooms.

The school is built to LEED for Schools 2.0 and Efficiency Maine’s High Performance School Grant Program standards, and employs green construction practices throughout. Aiming for a LEED Silver certification, other green aspects include solar panels on the roof to heat hot water, a state-of-the-art geothermal heat pump that utilizes energy from groundwater to heat the building, and large, highly-glazed windows with reflector panels to provide abundant natural light without compromising efficiency.
