Kate Furbish Elementary School
"In a time of uncertainty, the new elementary school allows children to be creative and connect with nature"
Details.
Ledgewood was hired as the General Contractor for construction of the new 70,900-s.f. school which will replace the 62-year-old Coffin Elementary and absorb students from Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary by providing space for kindergarten through second grade.
Our team at Ledgewood Construction was able to provide an aggressive bid coming in 10% under the architect’s estimate allowing the school department to accept all 16 add alternates.
The new school will enhance the learning experience through form and function, with an innovative design utilizing two wings for classrooms, sharing a central floor with a library, cafeteria, gymnasium, and space for music and art classes.
Named after revolutionary botanist, Catherine Furbish, the design reflects the theme of forests and paths meandering through the school, complimented by meadow-inspired elements.
The new school was completed on time and on budget during a national pandemic and welcomed students for the 2020-2021 school year.
