Kennebec Valley YMCA

Ledgewood Construction served as construction manager for the new, 43,000-s.f. facility. The building includes a natatorium with eight-lane competition swimming pool and family fun and therapy pool, full locker rooms, daycare facility with commercial kitchen, dance and aerobics studio, racquetball courts, fitness facility and regulation gymnasium with partition curtains.

Funded solely with fundraising dollars, the budget was tight. Ledgewood worked closely with the YMCA’s building committee and WBRC to bring the project within the funds available, paring the initial budget down by more than $3.8 million, while providing all the necessities plus some luxuries. Recognizing cost issues and potential savings early in the preconstruction phase also helped save money and time. Energy efficient HVAC and lighting systems earned the project an Efficiency Maine grant.
