Portland Jetport Baggage Claim

Accommodating security and traffic at this highly visible site.

Details.

The Portland Jetport Baggage claim project was a two-story, above grade expansion which added 22,000 s.f. for baggage claim and offices. The subsequent 9,000 s.f. of renovations upgraded the existing baggage claim area, visitor center, exterior, kitchen and restaurant.

Expanding and renovating the Portland International Jetport meant working on a highly visible, public site with unrelenting security and traffic concerns — aviation, passenger, worker, baggage and automobile. As part of the security requirements, we maintained badging for all workers.

Phasing the project accommodated the 24/7 airport operations. During the expansion and renovations, which replaced the two existing baggage carousels and added a third, Ledgewood maintained two functioning carousels at all times. Working in the kitchen and restaurant areas could occur only between eight o’clock in the evening and eight o’clock in the morning.
