Seaside Healthcare
Adapting and innovating for complex projects.
Details.
The First Atlantic Corporation entrusted Ledgewood Construction with our eighth project for them, Seaside Rehabilitation Center Addition at Seaside Healthcare in Portland, Maine. While this is not the largest project we have done for First Atlantic, it is certainly one of the most complicated: the facility’s new two-story addition was shoehorned between two existing, fully-occupied wings. This 39-unit, 20,000-s.f. addition provides much needed private rooms for the facility and is located only eight feet from the existing wings on both ends of the addition. Close coordination with the facility director and staff was the key to keeping the existing facility running during construction.
In addition to space and logistic challenge, the existing soils were not suitable to support a traditional spread footing foundation and the cost of driving steel “H” piles to refusal at 70’ deep was cost prohibitive. Ledgewood utilized a cutting-edge technology, Ground Improvement Aggregate Piers, at a savings of $277,000 over the “H” pile to support the addition.
