University of New England – Harold Alfond Forum Building
Harold Alfond Forum Building – Upgrading schools and campuses for students and faculty.
Details.
Ledgewood served as construction manager for the Harold Alfond Forum Building expansion at University of New England’s Biddeford campus.
The 42,000-s.f. expansion and renovation was an upgrade and support for the new football team. The strength and conditioning and athletic training areas were expanded to accommodate more students involved in sports. The new area also included upgraded laundry facilities, uniform storage, lockers, meeting rooms and coaches offices. The project also includes 5,100-s.f. of classroom space with a 23’ x 75’ curtain wall overlooking the college campus.
This project proved challenging from the very beginning because the project, as designed, was over budget. Ledgewood and the team identified areas that could be scaled back and researched new materials that could be used to minimize cost, without affecting the building aesthetic or function. These efforts succeeded in reducing the cost of construction by more than $1M.
